Malawi University of Science and Technology Staff Sports Association (MUSTASA) on May 17, 2025 donated assorted items worth K1.3 million to a young mother who recently gave birth to quadruplets at Mwanza District Hospital.

The donation followed the story of Dorothy Lingi, 20, from Makanani Village, Traditional Authority Nthache, in Mwanza who gave birth to four babies.

MUSTASA, which had scheduled football and netball games on the day in Mwanza, decided to use the trip for a corporate social responsibility.

โ€œAs MUSTASA, we felt moved to take action and make a difference in her life,โ€ said Emma Mbilizi, MUSTASA secretary general.

โ€œWe mobilised resources through staff and management contributions, who despite the short notice, were very generous in their response. Together, we raised about K1.3 million to support the mother and her babies.โ€

Mbilizi expressed gratitude to the university's leadership and staff for their quick response and contributions, which made the donation possible.

Receiving the items, Mrs Chirombo, Matron for Mwanza District Hospital, applauded MUST for the timely and compassionate gesture.

She emphasized how crucial such support was in helping the mother to take care of the quadruplets, especially in their early stages of life.

On her part, the young mother, Lingi, expressed her gratitude for the donation.

โ€œThis support means so much to me and my children. It will go a long way in helping me to take care of them, especially now when everything feels overwhelming,โ€ she said.

Lingi gave birth to three girls-Ruth, Margret, and Roseby, and a boy, Mike.
