First-year students at MUST have been encouraged to stay focused and committed to their academic journey if they are to succeed in life.
The advice came on July 1, 2025, from MUSTโs Vice Chancellor, Professor Address Malata, during her address to new undergraduate and postgraduate students as part of the universityโs orientation week, currently underway.
In her welcoming remarks, Professor Malata congratulated the students for being admitted into one of Malawiโs top institutions of higher learning.
โToday is a day of celebration as we warmly welcome our newest members to our academic family,โ she said.
Professor Malata applauded the students for their hard work and perseverance that led to their admission.
She encouraged them to remain focused, embrace the universityโs umunthu philosophy, and aim high.
โIf you want to fly like an eagle, never waste your time living with chickens,โ she challenged the students.
Also speaking during the orientation, Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr Kondwani Mkandawire, emphasized the importance of using education to make a difference in society.
โAn ideal student should recognize that education is not only for personal gain, but also for making a positive impact on others,โ he said.
The orientation week aims to help new students understand the universityโs values, resources, and expectations as they begin their journey at MUST.
