On July 22, 2025, officials from the Project Steering Committee of the Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) project visited MUST to assess progress on the construction of a new lecture theatre complex.

The project, which began in December 2024, is expected to be completed by January 2026.

The visiting team, led by the Principal Secretary for Higher Education, Dr Levis Eneya, was taken through a detailed presentation by Mr Ignatius Chitsanthi, the projectโ€™s consultant.

In his presentation Chitsanthi outlined the developments so far and highlighted both the achievements and challenges the team has faced.

Chitsanthi explained that the construction is progressing well, although the team has faced some challenges along the way, which included working on rocky terrain, unfavourable weather conditions, and the tragic loss of a worker, which resulted in the suspension of the construction activities.

However, Chitsanthi said despite these challenges, the project team has taken proactive steps to recover lost time, such as increasing the workforce and improving site management.

On his part Dr Eneya expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far. He commended the construction team for their commitment and resilience in addressing the delays.

โ€œI am happy with the measures they have put in place to recover the time lost due to the accident and geographical challenges,โ€ said Dr Eneya. โ€œWith the current pace, I am hopeful that the project will be completed within the set timeline.โ€

The lecture theatre complex under construction includes two large lecture theatres and eight academic offices.

Once completed, the facility will greatly enhance teaching and learning spaces at MUST.
