MUST through the African Drone and Data Academy- ADDA, has empowered 29 graduates with practical drone and data technology skills aimed at supporting innovation and sustainable development across various sectors.
The graduates, who received their certificates during a ceremony held on Friday, October 31, 2025 in Blantyre, included 13 officers from Malawi Police Service and Certificate in Drone and Data Technology (CDDT2) 16th cohort students from MUST.
The training focused on drone operations, data management, and their application in areas such as security, disaster response, and environmental monitoring.
Speaking during the event, Executive Dean of the Malawi Institute of Technology at MUST, Dr Michael Zimba, said the program is key in advancing Malawiโs aspirations under the Malawi 2063 vision.
โThis training is part of our continued effort to build capacity in emerging technologies that can drive sustainable development. We want to ensure that our graduates are not only users of technology but also innovators who create solutions for Malawi,โ he said.
Representing Malawi Police Service, Training Officer Joseph Mutubha applauded MUST for involving police officers in the program, saying it will improve efficiency in their operations.
โThe skills gained will strengthen our patrols, enhance disaster rescue efforts, and improve crowd monitoring during demonstrations through aerial data analysis,โ he said.
The CDDT2 is part of MUSTโs Digital Skills Training initiative, which aims to produce a skilled workforce capable of leveraging technology to solve real-world problems.
