MUST has taken another major step in strengthening its global research footprint through its involvement in the WAGON2Africa (WAter, enerGy, fOod Nexus 2 Africa) partnership.
Under this partnership, seven Masterโs and PhD students will spend three months at the University of Foggia and the University of Bari in Italy.
They will be joined by seven academic staff members who will undertake one month of intensive research and innovation training.
The exchange is designed to deepen expertise in the Water, Energy, Food (WEF) Nexus, an area central to Malawiโs development priorities.
The WAGON2Africa initiative connects African and European institutions working to address water scarcity, energy access, climate resilience, and sustainable agriculture.
MUST Vice Chancellor, Professor Address Malata described the initiative as transformative for the university and the country.
โThis collaboration is not just about sending students abroad, it is about transforming MUST into a globally connected research university,โ she said.
She emphasised that the program aligns perfectly with the universityโs mission to produce globally competitive graduates who can lead Malawiโs scientific and technological transformation.
Program Director, Professor David Mkwambisi also highlighted the academic significance of the exchange.
He said the Water, Energy, Food Nexus is central to sustainable development and offers students the opportunity to interact with global experts, learn new research methods, and co-develop solutions relevant to Malawiโs agriculture, water systems, and energy transitions.
The team consists of Francis Mvula, Talandira Noah, Aswell Kachidowo and Chipiliro Miyanga .
This milestone highlights the universityโs continued growth as an emerging centre of excellence in applied research, innovation, and international collaboration.
