A second-year Biomedical Engineering student at MUST, Francis Chantulo, 20, has developed a web-based shop management system for shop owners'  businesses ease and efficiency.

Francis created the system after observing everyday challenges faced by shop owners in keeping accurate records.

His inspiration came from a case study at the universityโ€™s tuck shop, where he noticed that tracking sales, stock, and suppliers was a challenge, especially during busy periods.

โ€œI saw that many shop owners struggle to keep proper records of their items and sales,โ€ Francis explained.

โ€œSometimes information is forgotten or not recorded correctly. That is when I realized there was a need for a simple system that could help.โ€

The web-based platform offers practical features that allow shop owners to track their suppliers, maintain a clear record of all items in stock, and monitor how many products have been sold over time.

By bringing all this information into one system, the platform helps reduce errors, save time, and improve decision-making for small business owners.

This innovation highlights the growing role of digital solutions in improving everyday business operations.

For many small shops, especially those that rely on manual record-keeping, this system can make a meaningful difference in organization, accountability, and overall performance.

Francis credits MUST for playing a key role in shaping his idea and giving him the confidence to develop it.

He says the university provides an environment that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and innovation among students.

โ€œMUST gives us the opportunity to think beyond the classroom and come up with solutions that can help people in real life,โ€ he said.

Francis also saidd his journey into software development was largely supported by learning from fellow students on campus, showing the power of collaboration and peer learning within the university community.

His project stands as a strong example of how students at MUST are using their knowledge and creativity to address real-world challenges.

The work not only reflects personal initiative but also demonstrates how the university continues to nurture innovation that can impact society.
