MUST, through the African Drone and Data Academy (ADDA), has made further strides in enhancing education and training in aviation and drone technology after engaging in a fruitful dialogue with Airport Development Limited (ADL).

On May 12, 2026, a MUST delegation led by Associate Professor Chikondi Chisenga, Executive Dean for Ndata School of Climate and Earth Sciences (NSCES) and ADDA Coordinator, visited ADL offices in Lilongwe for a facility tour and discussion regarding the partnership between the two organisations.

The visit followed an earlier interface meeting in November 2025, during which both parties explored areas of collaboration in aviation, drone technology, research, and training.

The discussion on Tuesday began with a courtesy call on the ADL Chief Executive Officer, Zione Themba, followed by a guided tour of some facilities in the organisation that are within the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) compound, including School of Aviation, Air Traffic Control Unit, Flight Planning Office, and others.

It presented the MUST delegation an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the facilities and capabilities of ADL while exploring ways in which both organisations could work together to strengthen skills development in the aviation sector.

After the tour, the two parties held a boardroom meeting where discussions focused on the way forward towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which is currently being developed jointly by MUST and ADL.

Among other areas, the proposed partnership is expected to promote capacity building, research and innovation, and academic excellence.

The collaboration is also expected to support development of aviation-related programmes and enhance practical training opportunities for students and professionals.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr Chisenga commended ADL for the warm welcome and productive discussions, describing the engagement as an important milestone towards building a strong partnership that will benefit both institutions and the country at large.

β€œWe are encouraged by the commitment shown by ADL. Partnerships such as this are important in creating opportunities for innovation, practical learning, and skills development that respond to the needs of Malawi,” he said.

On her part, Mkwachi Moyo, ADL Legal and Compliance Officer, said they look forward to creating value from the partnership.

Among others, she said the collaboration will help increase availability of aviation programmes and contribute to development of more aviation professionals in Malawi.
