Final-year students at MUST on May 15, 2026, gathered at the Library Auditorium for a workshop aimed at preparing them for life after college and the competitive job market.

The workshop was organized by Chiposa Chiomba, fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology student, who said the initiative was inspired by the need to equip students with practical skills required during the transition from university to the professional world.

According to Chiomba, many students graduate with academic qualifications but lack exposure to important career-building skills such as networking, interview preparation, and professional communication.

โ€œThe workshop was organized to help students understand what employers look for and how they can prepare themselves for opportunities beyond college,โ€ said Chiomba.

The training covered key topics such as interview preparation, social capital and networking, among others.

Dr Atikonda Mtenje Mkochi, Executive Dean for Bingu School of Culture and Heritage, delivered a presentation on building social capital and networking.

She emphasized the importance of building meaningful relationships and professional connections for career growth and personal development.

Mr Bright Limani, an HR expert, also engaged students with a presentation on how to prepare for job interviews.

He shared practical tips on confidence, communication, professionalism and making a positive first impression during interviews.

Participating students described the workshop as both inspiring and informative.

One of them, Alinafe Kamlomo, a final-year Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices student, commended the organizers for creating a platform that addresses real-life challenges students face after graduation.

โ€œThe workshop has given me important insights on how to prepare myself for the industry and become more confident as I transition into the professional world,โ€ she said.

The workshop reflects the growing culture of student leadership and innovation at MUST, where students continue to create initiatives that support academic, personal and professional growth.
