A special farewell ceremony was held on May 29, 2026, by staff of under Bingu School of Culture and Heritage (BISCH) at MUST for Dr Ignasio Jimu.
Prior to his recent appointment as Chief Executive Officer of National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), Dr Jimu served as Head of departments of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices and Musicology MUST.
Addressing the gathering, BISCH Executive Dean, Dr Atikonda Mtenje-Mkochi, described the day as bittersweet.
She noted that while the department will miss Dr Jimu's enormous contributions to its growth, his new position is a direct testament to his diligence.
"As you start your new role at NCHE, we know that you will leave the School much stronger than you found it," Dr Mtenje-Mkochi said.
"We are sad to see you go, but we are also excited for what lies ahead. The true measure of a teammate is not just the projects they complete, but the workplace culture they leave behind. We hope this exciting new chapter goes well for you."
Dr Jimu expressed his gratitude to the team for their unwavering support, friendship and mentorship during his tenure.
โSaying goodbye is the hardest part of my transition, as I have learned so much from this team," Dr Jimu said.
"I am grateful for the opportunities we have shared and my door will always remain open for future networking and collaboration."
The celebratory mood was enhanced by shared meals, exchange of meaningful gifts, jokes and well wishes, capping off a cheerful spirit appropriate for the occasion.
