MUST on June 1, 2026 rolled out an orientation program for the newly elected leaders for the Students Representative Council (SRC).
The four-day orientation is taking place at the University's Ndata Campus in Thyolo, and aims to equip the new SRC leadership for their new roles.
Among others, the students will be drilled on conflict resolution, effective leadership and university policy alignment.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr Kondwani Mkandawire, defined true leadership as empowering others and amplifying their voices, rather than just holding a title.
Dr Mkandawire said integrity, collaboration and accountability must drive student leadership.
On his part, Assistant Registrar Faston Misinde outlined the MUST governance structure to clarify communication channels between students and management.
Misinde urged the student body to understand the structure to transition from "mere advocates to strategic partners" in university leadership, noting that "governance structure is like oil in the wheels of the cart."
Activities lined up for the session include plenary sessions, presentations on a number of topical issues and issuance of certificates of attendance.
