Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) and Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) have partnered in a faculty development workshop.
Held in Blantyre, the Lemelson Foundation-funded workshop is jointly being organized by Rice University and MUST Design Studio.
During the introductory session, Professor Theresa Mkandawire, NEST360 Principal Investigator for MUBAS, said MUBAS faculty members convened to cover the modern communication module, which supplements their previous development program on modern instructional strategies.
Professor Mkandawire explained that the workshop was organized because the MUST curriculum treats active learning and communication as a single, combined reflex rather than separate strategies, necessitating their participation to bridge the missing link.
Engineer Williams Baah, the Rice360 IvE Africa Project Coordinator, said the workshop features a unique delivery lens that merges both active learning and communication.
He emphasized the goal of having both Malawian partner institutions benefit from this integrated training, which will run through Friday.
MUST faculty have since July 13 been attending a RICE360 organised workshop on active learning strategies before the MUBAS team joined them.
