MUST Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Mwapatsa Mipando, on August 24, 2026 addressed first-year students with a call for hard work and discipline.
The students had commenced a five-day orientation to familiarise themselves with various aspects of university life, systems and structures.
Addressing the students, Associate Professor Mipando welcomed them, calling the day the beginning of a transformative chapter.
He said academic success requires both hard work and discipline.
"We all belong to different religious groups, ensure that faith remains an anchor for you to navigate emotional and academic university storms," said Dr Mipando.
"Premarital sex can compromise your academic success, avoid it. Ensure that moral integrity safeguards your education."
He concluded by highlighting the university's Umunthu philosophy, which fosters empathy, collaboration and character to build global citizens.
First-year student, Felister Maloya, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor's honesty, noting it made her realize students are entirely responsible for their own choices and success.
Throughout the week, the freshmen attended orientation sessions to familiarize themselves with university rules, regulations and general campus life.
