Students pursuing Chemical Engineering studies at MUST on September 26, 2026, launched their grouping, called Association of Chemical Engineering Students (ACES).
According to the students, since MUST is the only university offering Chemical Engineering presently, it means ASEC is the first student association for chemical engineering students in Malawi.
During the launch at the MUST Library Auditorium, the event was attended by students, lecturers and other guests.
ACES secretary Liness Phiri said the association aims to provide students with opportunities to interact, learn and develop skills through study groups, industrial tours and community outreach activities.
Guest of Honour, MacPhancio Nkhoma, challenged students to start addressing societal problems while still at university instead of waiting until graduation.
"Work together across different academic years and broaden your understanding of chemical engineering to help address challenges facing Malawi," said Nkhoma who is a lecturer in chemical engineering at MUST.
Fifth-year student,  Yvonne Theogene, described the launch as a significant achievement, saying students were proud to establish the first chemical engineering association in Malawi.
The event ended with a call for students to actively participate in the association's activities and contribute to the development of chemical engineering at MUST and in Malawi.
