Mulungushi University boasts of over 118 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, 462 staff complement, 6000 active students and has so far graduated over 3,000 students.

Reacting to the news, Professor Malata said the appointment was a demonstration of trust and confidence in not only her abilities, but also that of the academic sector in Malawi.

An advocate for girls and women empowerment through education, Professor Malata says she hopes the appointment would unlock more opportunities for further empowerment of women and girls towards greater goals in the academic sector.

“I am deeply humbled with this appointment and I do hope that through it, we can share more knowledge and skills and that more networks and collaborations between Malawi and Zambia can be enhanced,” she said.

She will continue to head MUST whilst only visiting Mulungushi University in her new role.
