MUST appoints ODel and PG coordinators
The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) has appointed coordinators for its postgraduate (PG) studies and Open and Distance E-Learning (ODeL) programmes.
The appointments follow a selection process that saw internal academic staff members competing for the two positions.
Dr Paul Makocho has been appointed as ODeL coordinator while Dr Andrew Mtewa is the new Postgraduate Studies coordinator.
The appointments, according to an internal communication from the University Registrar’s office, are effective October 1, 2022.
“Dr Mtewa and Dr Makocho will continue in their other positions as Senior Lecturer in Chemistry and Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences, respectively,” reads the statement.
The appointments are also in line with the university’s strategic intent to invest in PG and ODeL studies as one way of increasing its research and outreach activities on one hand and expand access on the other.
Currently MUST is offering 11 masters degree programmes and three PhD programmes in various areas. Since last year, it also put on offer two degree programmes under ODeL but has over the years run short courses through ODeL.
The plan is to have the majority of its programmes also available through ODeL and increase the number of PG programmes so that they become the bedrock of its offering.
