MUST launches journal

The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) on February 11, 2022, launched its first ever academic journal, named Advances in Sciences and Arts.

The journal, with a robust review process, is expected to provide high quality, reviewed, open access infrastructure for scholarly articles and other products of research and development.

Speaking during the launching ceremony at MUST campus, Director of Research, Postgraduate Studies and Outreach, Dr Alfred Maluwa, said the academic journal was established in line with MUST’s vision, mission and strategic objectives.

“As such, we expect the Advances in Sciences and Arts provide a platform for networking and sharing of research results with the global scientific community and to increase MUST’s visibility, nationally, regionally and globally through e-journal infrastructure. The journal is designed to publish in volumes, issues and sections, with one volume per year with two issues, in July and December,” said Dr Maluwa.

In his keynote address, Dr Joseph Nagoli from National Planning Commission, said the establishment of the journal was in line with the Malawi 2063 agenda.

And guest of honour, Dr Joshua Valeta, who is Director of Open and Distance E-Learning (ODeL) at Ministry of Education, said research, which the journal seeks to promote through publications, was one way of generating new knowledge that will inform decisions for national development and creating of various innovations.
