Reunion boosts MUST golf tournament with K5m

Reunion Insurance Company on Thursday, September 14, donated K5 million towards the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) organized Vice Chancellor’s ‘Come Back to Campus and Stay’ fundraising golf tournament.

The tournament, which seeks to support needy students who withdrew from the university on account of lack of fees and others who are on the verge of withdrawing on the same account, will be held at Blantyre Sports Club on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

The Right Honourable Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima, Vice President f the Republic of Malawi, will be the guest of honour and apart from teeing off the tournament, he will also play and compete.

Speaking when he presented the K5 million cheque at Reunion Insurance head office in Blantyre, the company’s technical manager for Claims and Business Development, Hastings Kapesa, said the support aligns with their commitment to contribute towards national development.

“We need to do everything possible to keep our students in school because educating them now means our country’s future is secured as these are the people who will contribute towards national development as espoused in the Malawi 2063,” he said.

University Registrar Alfred Chinombo thanked Reunion Insurance for the donation, saying it will go a long way to secure a future of a needy student who was losing hope because of withdrawing from university.

 “Any amount that goes towards supporting a needy student is never small. The students have varied needs that require support of any magnitude. In as far as this support is concerned, it will see a student studying at MUST for their entire programme length,” he said.

He also thanked Reunion Insurance for partnering MUST in many other initiatives such as tree planting exercise and sending personnel to act as role models to students.

The fundraising of tournament will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Blantyre Sports Club and will tee off at 8.30am.
