About The School
The Malawi Institute of Technology (MIT) is the first school at MUST to be operationalized. The school was operationalized in 2014 and for a year, it operated with one department: The Basic Sciences Department. All academic staff members, irrespective of their areas of specialisation, belonged to this department in the 2014/15 academic year.
The School is currently headed by an Executive Dean, Dr Davies Mweta. He is the first executive dean for the school. Under the Executive Dean are heads of department for Applied Studies, Computer Sciences and Information Technology, and Engineering.
In 2014 the MIT is started with three engineering programs and two postgraduate programmes; one in Innovation and the other in Entrepreneurship. The number of undergraduate programmes has increased to five while the number of postgraduate programmes has remained the same.
In line with the vision and mission of the mother university, the MIT is establishing and positioning itself as the centre of excellence in science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship education, training and research through provision of a healthy teaching, learning and research environment grounded well in the principles of science & technology, promoting creativity, and nurturing teamwork.
