Position : Head, Earth Sciences

Dr Tchuwa is the Head of Earth Sciences Department in Ndata School of Climate and Earth Sciences. He holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Manchester. He also possesses a Master of Science from the University of London and a Bachelor of Education Science from the University of Malawi, both with a distinction.

Dr Tchuwa was awarded Commonwealth PhD and Masters scholarships to pursue his postgraduate studies in the UK. He was later to become a Ford Foundation Research Fellow and carried out post-doctoral work at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa where he also taught Environment and Development.

With a proven academic track record, Dr Tchuwa has held research and teaching positions in England, South Africa and Malawi. Before joining MUST, he also worked as a Senior Lecturer at the Catholic University of Malawi.

Dr Tchuwa currently serves as an editorial Board Member for the Journal of Environment and Planning C: Politics and Space, and has published his work in internationally acclaimed journals.

He joined MUST in June 2018 and has since spearheaded efforts to establish the Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management.
