Dr Leonard Kalindekafe is an Associate Professor and has a PhD in Mineral Law and Policy obtained in 2007 at the University of Dundee in Scotland. He also has a Masters degree in Geology (Joint University of Malawi and Saskatchewan, Canada).
He joined MUST in 2015 and became Executive Dean of the Ndata School of Climate and Earth Sciences in January 2016.
The School has four Departments namely Climate Sciences, Earth Sciences, Water Resources and Sustainable Energy systems Department. The main areas of training and research are in earth sciences, climate sciences (including climate change and Disaster Risk Management), Water resources and Renewable energy.
Dr Kalindekafe has vast experience in mineral resources development, water resources, renewable energy and climate sciences.
He has worked in government and gone up through the ladders from a geologist to Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Environment.
Internationally, he is well known having published several papers in international journals, presented papers in several international conferences and in addition has held several positions as follows: Assistant Secretary General of the Geological Society of Africa, President of the UN-Founded Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF), 2009-2013.
He is also the Honorary Associate from the Graduate School of Natural Resources, Law, Policy and Management (University of Dundee, Scotland, UK) from December 2014.
His areas of interest are earth sciences, climate sciences including climate change and disaster risk management, Water resources and Renewable energy. He is also very experienced in Public Policy Formulation and Implementation.
