Dr Nampota joined MUST in August 2013, initially on secondment from the University of Malawi (Unima) where he was the Deputy Registrar. Previously, he had from 1990 to 2006 worked as an Administrative Assistant, Assistant Registrar, College Registrar and Senior Assistant Registrar in Unima. Dr Nampota has vast experience in university admissions, academic management, students’ affairs, human resources management and development, strategic planning and management, general administration and institutional policy review and development.
He has had international administrative work experience having worked close to a year as an Administrative Assistant at University of Bath in the UK where he was responsible for Students’ Loans Liaison.
When he joined MUST, Dr Nampota started as a project coordinator and contributed greatly to the opening of the new University. He was pivotal in setting up of the academic and administrative structures; development of management and administrative operational systems; procurement of goods and services; recruitment of management, teaching and administrative staff of the new university that facilitated the admission of the university’s first students in March, 2014 and its eventual official opening on 24th October, 2014.
Dr Nampota was appointed as the first Registrar of MUST on 1st December, 2014. He is a seasoned and an accomplished higher education management practitioner and researcher. He holds a PhD in Higher Education Management and Governance from Rhodes University in South Africa; a Master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Botswana and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from University of Malawi. He also has acquired professional training in higher education management and governance from Israel, USA, South Africa and China. His research interest is in higher education governance.
On community service, Dr Nampota has served as Vice Chairperson of Blantyre Water Board (2006-2010); he still serves as a trustee of TEST Malawi, a local non-governmental charity organization that supports needy university students; a member of Lions Club, an international charity organization–Zomba Club (previously served as Chairperson for Scholarships and later as Club President); and Parish Treasurer for St Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish.
