Strategic studies students visit MUST main campus

Students studying for the Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Studies, who are senior officers of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) on November 29, visited the main campus of the Malawi University of Science and Technology in Thyolo.

The students, although studying under MUST, are having their teaching and learning sessions at Malawi Armed Forces College (Mafco) in Salima.

In his speech, MUST Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Jonathan Makuwira applauded MDF management for arranging the trip, saying students should be familiar with their school.

Lieutenant Colonel Gwembere, who led the team of students, thanked MUST for collaborating with MDF to mount the course, saying previously MDF was spending a lot of money to send officers overseas for a similar training.

“The course is very important for us as it relates to issues of international relations, peace and defence.  This is the first of its kind in Malawi and will be easily accessed by our officers,” he said, adding they opted to collaborate with MUST on the course because of the university’s good reputation.

During the visit, the students had several presentations on different topics and took a tour of the campus to appreciate some of the facilities available.

Lt Col Gwembere said with the value addition that the programme offers, it would be better if MDF and MUST thought of upgrading the course to first degree or masters level.
