Airtel Malawi on 27 August 2026, held an induction for 25 MUST students who received merit-based scholarships under the Airtel Nzeru Fund Tech initiative.
The ceremony took place at MUST campus in Thyolo, and brought together officials from both institutions and the scholarship awardees.
Airtel Malawi Managing Director Aashish Dutt said the scholarship, through Airtel Africa Nzeru initiative, targeted talented STEM students.
He said the sponsorship extends beyond financial aid, representing an investment in students' potential to drive national growth by bridging talent with opportunity.
"STEM education is vital for national development, as it fosters critical thinking and innovation needed for digital transformation and realisation of Malawi 2063 goals," he said.
While congratulating the beneficiaries, he urged them to remain curious, disciplined, and resilient.
โNever let your current circumstances limit your ambitions, and remember your responsibility to society as you achieve success,โ Dutt added.
Representing MUST Vice-Chancellor, Assistant Registrar (Academics), Dr Duncan Batizani thanked Airtel Malawi for the studentsโ scholarships.
He challenged the students to look beyond academic degrees by leveraging their tech education to embrace digital advancements, innovate, and develop leadership and communication skills to solve real-world problems.
"The induction offers vital non-academic growth, including mentorship and financial literacy training. Use these tools to build professional networks and manage resources responsibly," he said.
One of the recipients, Vanessa Ziwoya, said the scholarship has eased her financial burden and promised to work hard and realise her academic goals.
The Airtel Nzeru Fund Tech scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fee, monthly upkeep, data bundles, and will run until the students finish their studies at MUST.
