On May 15, 2026, top-six performing students from St Andrews Boys Mission Secondary School in Mulanje visited MUST as one way of inspiring and motivating them through exposure to university life and career opportunities.
After the presentation of MUST programmes and their admission requirements, Form Three student Ivan Mbewe was all grateful, saying the presentation was inspiring.
"It was pleasing to learn how MUST trains engineers who design, manufacture and repair critical medical equipment;" he said.
βI want to design medical devices to help patients in the future.β
Austin Makalachi, a Form 4 student, was happy to learn the difference between a βcourseβ and a βprogrammeβ and that MUST also offers non-science options, meaning students who love subjects like humanities or languages can still study there.
Speaking on behalf of the headteacher, a Mrs Likhome said the school supported the top students with transport for the trip to reward excellence and show them possibilities beyond textbooks.
βThese boys will return as ambassadors. They will show how school subjects connect directly to university pathways and motivate other students to work harder for a chance to visit MUST in the future," she said.
A Biology teacher, Oscar Chilora, added that campus visits shift studentsβ mindsets from βcan I make it?β to βhow do I qualify?β
He said they chose MUST for its hands-on learning and growing reputation in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Apart from the presentation, the students toured various facilities, including lecture rooms, laboratories, and the university's radio station, where they participated live on air to discuss their future ambitions.
The visit proved to be an exciting and memorable experience, not just for the top six scholars, but for the entire school community they will now inspire.
