On May 19, 2026, MUST received a donation of laboratory chemicals and reagents worth over K20 million from PressCane Limited.
The consignment includes important supplies such as methyl acetate, butane, furfuraldehyde and methyl sulphide, among others, boosting hands-on engineering and scientific research on campus.
Speaking on behalf of PressCane Chief Executive Officer, Chaupu Chihana, who is Chief Financial Officer, said PressCane was excited to deepen its collaboration with MUST.
βThis university consistently produces innovative and practical engineers we need,β she said during a handover event at the company's premises in Chikwawa.
She said MUST graduates working with PressCane and other institutions are renowned for their high-level skills and fresh ideas.
"We have several MUST alumni in our teams, and they are already immensely contributing to our good performance as a firm,β said Chihana.
"As such, this donation is an investment in joint problemβsolving. We encourage student teams from MUST to propose collaborative projects to PressCane for industry mentorship and laboratory access."
Dr Lovemore Mkukuma, Head of Engineering Department at MUST, received the materials on behalf of the ViceβChancellor, Professor Address Malata.
"We are very thankful to PressCane for its continued support, including employing our graduates and having sone students on internship," he said.
"Previous partnerships with PressCane such as sponsorship of the MUST Engineering Symposium and placements for internship have been incredible."
He said internship opportunities for students create a platform for their handsβon experience and often lead to direct employment.
"We have noted that returning interns demonstrate sharper technical skills and a better understanding of professional expectations," said Dr Mkukuma.
The donation from the Chikwawa based ethanol producing firm highlights a thriving academiaβindustry partnership that transforms classroom potential into realβworld impact.
