K
humbo Mindiera, a proud alumnus of MUST, is celebrating a major milestone after being named one of the winners in the AYuTe Africa Challenge Malawi 2025.

Khumbo, who studied Biomedical Engineering at MUST, secured K2 million in the Idea and Prototype category for his innovative project, the Smart Hybrid Biogas Incubator and Cold Storage System.

The project aims to reduce post-harvest losses, improve access to clean energy, and boost income for smallholder farmers through affordable, locally made agri-tech solutions.

Currently, Khumbo is working hard to further develop and pilot the project in selected farming communities in Malawi.

His goal is to make the technology accessible and impactful for rural farmers who often face challenges in preserving produce and accessing reliable energy.

Speaking on his achievement, Khumbo said the award is not just a personal success, but also a reflection of the strong foundation he received at MUST.

โ€œThis would not have been possible without the education and inspiration I received at MUST, and the mentorship I gained through platforms like UniPod Malawi,โ€ he said.

The AYuTe Africa Challenge is a national competition that supports young innovators developing technology-driven solutions in agriculture.

Khumboโ€™s invention stood out for its potential to make a real difference in the lives of rural communities.

At MUST, we believe in producing graduates who not only excel in their professions but also create impact in their communities.

Khumboโ€™s success is a clear example of how innovation, when guided by purpose and mentorship, can solve real-world problems.

His story serves as an inspiration to current students, showing that with creativity, commitment, and the right support, great ideas can grow into powerful solutions.
