There was a time when Autice Mdzuma believed that making money was more important than earning a university degree.
After completing his Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), Autice trained as a teacher and later combined teaching with running a business.
As his income grew, he began to think that university education was no longer necessary.
"I thought money was all that mattered and believed that I did not need a degree," he says.
Everything changed after a conversation with a friend who was already financially successful but was still pursuing a university education.
"That was the moment I realised that education is more valuable than money," added Autice.
Inspired by that realization, Autice applied to MUST, where he is now pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Language, Communication and Culture (LCC) as an ODEL student.
At MUST, Autice says he has found the quality education he hoped for. Although challenges such as power outages and poor internet connectivity sometimes affect his studies, they have not stopped him from pursuing his goals.
One of his favourite experiences has been learning Chinese, while dedicated lecturers continue to inspire him through their commitment and hard work.
Looking back, Autice says choosing education over comfort was one of the best decisions he has ever made.
His advice to other young people is simple; never underestimate the value of education.
