On 16 December 2025, newly elected Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) student leaders at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) were officially sworn into office and handed a symbolic โ€œkey of responsibilityโ€ by their predecessors.
The ceremony, held at the MUST Blantyre Campus, was attended by members of staff and students and marked the formal transfer of leadership of the MUST Student Representative Council (SRC), in accordance with the constitution governing the student body.
During the swearing-in ceremony, the Dean of Students' Affairs Dr Kondwani Mkandawire, congratulated the newly elected SRC members and offered guidance on effective leadership.
He encouraged them to lead with empathy, work collaboratively with purpose, and champion positive change within the university community.
Dr Mkandawire further advised the new student leaders to lead by example through academic excellence, advocacy for inclusivity, and the promotion of integrity in all their undertakings.
โ€œAs you step into these new roles that shape our campus experience, I therefore implore you to serve with passion, make your mark, and leave a lasting legacy,โ€ Dr Mkandawire said.
He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing SRC members for their dedicated and impactful leadership, acknowledging the contribution they made during their term of office.
โ€œAs you transfer power today, know that your influence will ripple beyond this term. Thank you for leading with passion and inspiring others,โ€ he added.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected SRC president, Blessings Chimombo, thanked fellow students for entrusting him with the leadership role and commended the outgoing team for laying a strong foundation.
โ€œI pledge to be a listening president, to lead with integrity, to push boundaries, and to fight for what matters to us all. Let us make this term of office unforgettable,โ€ Chimombo said.
