In a move towards collaboration for national sports development, MUST has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS).

Through shared values and a common vision, the two institutions aim to unlock new opportunities in sports science and athlete development.

This new partnership is focused on transforming the sports landscape in Malawi through innovation, education, and research.

The partnership is built on six key pillars which are sports science and research, focusing on evidence-based athlete development; and capacity building, through training programs for athletes, coaches, and officials.

Others are on infrastructure development, with shared use and improvement of sports facilities; sports education, by introducing specialized academic programmes in sports-related fields, and events and competitions, to promote participation and talent discovery.

Lastly is through scholarships and internships, providing educational and practical opportunities for students and sports professionals.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, MNCS Chief Executive Officer Dr Henry Kamata applauded MUST for its advanced facilities and strong academic programmes in sports science.

“As MNCS, we are going to profile MUST as a centre of sports excellence,” he said.

Dr Mwayiwawo Madanitsa, Executive Dean of the Academy of Medical Sciences at MUST, described the agreement as a win-win collaboration.

“We will be leveraging the expertise we have at MUST like our staff, facilities, and scientific resources, while benefiting from the technical strengths that MNCS brings, and together we can improve sports performance in Malawi,” he said.

The signing ceremony took place at MUST’s Thyolo campus and it highlights the importance of partnerships in driving progress.
