Final year students in the Geo-Petroleum Sciences programme at MUST will hold a maiden symposium on May 15, 2026.
It will create a platform for the students to showcase knowledge and skills to prospective employers and industry partners.
The event will be held at MUST’s City Campus in Blantyre from 9am to 2pm, according to Ishainesu Mponda, president of the Petroleum Society.
He said through the symposium, they expect it deepen exploration and exchange of ideas on specific topics, thus promoting intellectual discussion and practical solutions to challenges faced in industry.
Mponda said the symposium will also offer an invaluable platform for MUST’s final year students to showcase their expertise and engage with forward-thinking industry professionals, potential employers, and government regulators.
The event will attract participation from final year students, registered members of MUST Petroleum Society, undergraduate students, and alumni.
"It actually aligns with the Malawi 2063 pillars, focusing on industrialization, energy security, and human capital development as key drivers of national transformation," said Mponda.
On the agenda are project presentations from graduating students, insightful talks from industry leaders, networking session, and awards for the best innovations developed by final year students.
The organisers say that their goal is to raise awareness of the Geo-Petroleum Science programme and showcase achievements of both students and faculty at MUST.
“It will bridge the divide between academia and industry, foster collaboration that will empower our graduating class to make meaningful contributions to the energy sector and development of our nation,” added Mponda.
The event is sponsored by NOCMA, MERA, Mining Solutions Limited, Puma and TotalEnergies Malawi.
