Meet Victor Phiri, a second-year Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiography) student at MUST.
Victor led a community project that raised 350 Indian sweet pawpaw seedlings and donated them to households in Chipasula Village under Chief Maunde in Lilongwe.
The goal was simple but powerful, to improve access to nutritious fruits, strengthen household food security, and create future income opportunities as the trees mature.
Victor was inspired by the nutritional challenges many families face due to limited access to fruits.
Pawpaw is rich in vitamins A and C, grows well locally, and supports good health.
According to Victor, the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Community members, including the chief, appreciated the support and shared their excitement, noting they had struggled to find pawpaw seedlings for years.
Victor credits MUST for nurturing his spirit of innovation and social responsibility.
The learning environment encouraged him to think beyond the classroom and apply knowledge for real impact. Skills gained through his programme and student leadership helped him plan and successfully deliver the project.
