Transformative curriculum development has been identified as a crucial element in advancing the education sector in the country.

The development follows a successful completion of a four-day training workshop on curriculum development, organized by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) and hosted by MUST.

The training brought together participants from both academic and administrative backgrounds, from various institutions.

Its aim was to strengthen skills and understanding in developing relevant, practical, and transformative curricula.

Speaking during the closing ceremony held in Blantyre, Professor Anthony Egeru, one of the workshop facilitators, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes.

"I was able to deliver all the modules planned for the training, and I commend the participants for their enthusiasm and engagement," he said.

Throughout the workshop, participants explored key topics, including identifying and overcoming barriers to experiential learning.

They also made presentations on strategies to improve the implementation of such learning approaches.

Professor Lilley Kumbani, Senior Lecturer at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES), described the training as insightful and empowering.

"It was incredibly informative. The facilitator's expertise, interactive delivery, and approachable style made the content easy to understand and apply," she noted.

Dr Cecilia Maliwichi-Nyirenda, Associate Program Coordinator for TAGDeV 2.0, highlighted the training’s alignment with the program’s goals.

TAGDeV 2.0 focuses on strengthening universities and equipping graduates with skills that respond to the growing challenge of youth unemployment in Africa.

She emphasized that the training offered a valuable platform for both learning and networking.

It aimed to encourage critical thinking, promote social change, and build stronger communities.

RUFORUM, which is a secretariat of the TAGDeV 2.0 program, is a network of 12 African universities across 10 countries.

The program is partnership with Mastercard Foundation and is dedicated to enhancing the capacity of African universities to drive agricultural innovation, particularly in support of smallholder farmers.

This training marks an important step towards reshaping higher education in Africa to be more responsive, inclusive, and impactful.
