About The Engineering Department
The Engineering Department, housed within the Malawi Institute of Technology, plays a crucial role in advancing education and research in various engineering disciplines. Within its umbrella, the department encompasses several specialised sections, namely Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and
Polymer & Textile Engineering. This diverse array of sections reflects the department's commitment to addressing a broad spectrum of technological and industrial challenges.

At the undergraduate level, the department offers six bachelor's programs, each tailored to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in their respective fields. These programs include. All engineering degrees are honours degrees and take five academic years to complete except for the Food Science and Technology degree which takes 4 years to complete.

● Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology,
● Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering,
● Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering,
● Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Engineering,
● Bachelor of Engineering in Polymer & Textile Engineering,
● Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering.

These undergraduate programs are designed to provide a solid foundation for students aspiring to contribute to various industries through innovative engineering solutions. Moving beyond the undergraduate level, the department extends its academic offerings to the postgraduate realm. The Engineering Department currently provides two master's programs:

● Master of Engineering (MEng) in Biomedical Engineering,
● Master of Engineering (MEng) in Chemical Engineering,

These master's programs aim to deepen students' expertise and foster a culture of entrepreneurship, encouraging graduates to become leaders and innovators in their respective fields.

Furthermore, the department is actively working on expanding its academic portfolio, with additional programs currently in the pipeline. This forward-thinking approach demonstrates the department's commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and meeting the evolving needs of industries.
