The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) has benefitted from a student grant fund by the Centenary Bank. The Fund is aimed at supporting needy students with full scholarships for their entire four years of their studies.

Speaking at a function on Thursday in Lilongwe, where the bank gave outs scholarships to MUST and Catholic University of Malawi (Cunima), Centenary Bank Malawi Limited managing director Zandile Shaba said MUST will receive K7,250,000 per year while Cunima will get K9,075,000.

The money will support five needy students at each of the two universities per year and the Centenary Bank has committed to support the students from first year to their final year.

In total, over the next four years, the bank would have spent a combined K65,500,000.

“Before this we once supported students at MUST and this other day when we went for Covid tests, one of the students conducting the tests recognized and thanked the Bank for supporting his education. These are the type of impacts we are looking at,” she said.

On their part, MUST Vice Chancellor, Professor Address Malata and Cunima Director of Academic Affairs, Rev Father Dr Wilfred Sumani, thanked Centenary Bank for the scholarship, saying universities have a lot of needy students who are struggling to finish their studies despite having the potential to do well.
