The TAGDEV 2.0 program at the Malawi University of Science and Technology this week met management teams of Mzuzu University (MZUNI) and University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) to sensitise them on the program.

TAGDEV 2.0 MEL Lead, Wongani Langa, briefed the senior members of MZUNI and UNILIA on the program’s structure, objectives, implementation plan, focus areas and targets.

Both MZUNI and UNILIA are partners in the TAGDEV 2.0 program, especially on the ASEC component and their management needed to be briefed on the program for a buy-in.

Among the attendees were MZUNI ASEC Lead Professor Fanuel Kapute and his counterpart at UNILIA, Professor Bernard Kamanga and others officials from the two institutions such as Mr Zondo Chibambo, Mr Wanangwa Msowoya and Ms Hilda Shawa.

In his presentation, Mr Langa gave an overview of TAGDEV 2.0 before narrowing it down to ASEC component.

He called on the partner institutions to support implementation of the program to meet its target.

MZUNI Vice Chancellor, Professor Wales Singini, who chaired the meeting, assured the TAGDEV team of his university’s full support.

In a related development, representatives from MZUNI and UNILIA held a meeting with the Rumphi District Agricultural Extension Coordinating Committee (DAECC) to brief them of the TAGDEV program.

The DAECC is a technical advisory body within Malawi's district councils that oversees agricultural extension services.

Mr Msowoya, who was accompanied by Professor Kapute, Professor Kamanga, Mr Chibambo and Ms Shawa, made a key presentation to the DAECC members.

According to Mr Msowoya, the DAECC meeting was an entry activity in Rumphi District for the TAGDEV program as it seeks implementing collaborators and partners.

DAECC is composed of a technical team from the District Agriculture office and some civil society members working in the field of agriculture.

In his brief address, Professor Kamanga told the DAECC that ASEC has come to build on interventions already under implementation by farmer organisations in the district

He said added that ASEC’s activities will collaborate with key stakeholders in the district and that was the reason they had to first engage the DAECC members.
