Dr Petros Chigwechokha is a Senior Lecturer and the current Head of Biological Sciences department at MUST. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from Kagoshima University in Japan.

His research interests are in the application of genetics and molecular-based approaches in understanding aquatic biota, human life, and the environment, such as wastewater-based pathogen detection, fish genetics, molecular ecology, phylogenetics and recombinant technologies.

Dr Chigwechokha has published over 22 papers in international journals and has presented his work locally and internationally. He has also worked in academic institutions for over a decade and has served in leadership positions including being Deputy Dean and has thus worked extensively in curriculum development and academic programme implementation.
